Yahoo’s stock prices are going through the roof at the moment due to the news that Microsoft are interested in a $50 Billion pounds takeover. I dread to think what Microsoft would do if they ever take over at Yahoo. Surely it would have to be left as a standalone company and not just lumped into one big melting pot with the rest of Microsoft’s web services (Microsoft live anyone ??) .
Yahoo have become somewhat of a ‘cool’ company over the past few years. They have managed to break out of their free email service box and are generally on the edge of innovation. They know a good buyout prospect when they see one as illustrated by their various internet acquisitions most notably Flickr.
The same could be said of Microsoft, although they havn’t been as active as Yahoo in their recent acquisitions they have been developing what seemed to be a ground breaking service that is Live.com . You can hate it all you want and many will due to the fact that it is Microsoft but Live.com did and has a lot of jaw dropping features.
Both companies coming together could surely only be a good thing. A strong competitor to google and the space for a up and comer to fill the space formely known as Yahoo.
